Depression

Depression is a characterised by a persistant or constant feeling of sadness and loss of interest, which stops you doing your normal activities and that negatively affects how you feel, think, act, and perceive the world.

In the last few decades it has been characterised by the notion of a chemical imbalance but this is now widely disputed and unproven. Truthfully for most people's depression it does not result from just a chemical imbalance or a single event, but from a mix of events and factors. And this is important because in therapy treatment because we will look at the different things that maybe brought on your depression and indeed what can then be implented to improve things for you.

Research also says that whilst medication can sometimes be helpful it is by no means necessary for many people and quality therapy is overall a more effective and longer lasting option for the majority of people.

Everyone's experience of depression and life is different so I always work with each and every person as an individual: your life is unique to you and so are your needs. Through therapy we will work together to examine the causes and to foster changes in your thinking, feelings, activities and life to help you organically recover from what can feel so bleak and hopeless - to bring hope for your future.

It was very clear to me that they were finding the more simple things in life much harder which brought with it a deeply felt fear about their future. As they expressed the design not to use medication, we began early on to look at the use of natural resources within their environment and life - once they felt they had lost. And together we embraced a reality that Rome was not built in a day and neither can our lives be turned around instantly by quick fixes. This relieved the pressure of thinking that they were doing something wrong or engaging in things that provided in the escape but no long-term benefit
